Eriochrome Black T is an indicator used in determining water hardness. When protonated, it is blue.
When complexed with calcium or other metals, it is red. It can be mixed with sodium chloride in a 1:100 dilution. It forms solutions in methanol at 0.5% (w/v); in triethanolamine at 0.5% (w/v); in 2-Methoxyethanol at 0.5% (w/v); in a mixture of 20% (v/v) triethanolamine / 80% (v/v) isopropyl alcohol at 1% (w/v).
