The Magdeburg Hemispheres consists of a pair of rubber vacuum cups that are used in a simple but very effective demonstration of the great force of air pressure. When the edges of the cups are placed together and then compressed to expel the air, they cannot easily be separated by straight pulling force. if used individually, the surface against which they are pressed must be quite smooth in order to make a tight seal. Because of this useful property, this type of vacuum cup is used extensively in handling all types of flat glass and metal panels. These durable black rubber cups will last through many, many demonstrations.
