The GS-501 (photo right) is a triple-ramge intstrument with a 500-0-500 micro-ampere direct current movement. Precesion one percent resistors are used to create additional ranges of 100 - 0 - 100 mV and 5-0-5 Volts. These are of course direct current.
This type of instrument is especially suited for use in student work with a Wheatstone bridge. The coarser ranges allow the bridge to be brought into near balance before final adjustment on the most sensitive range. Accuracy is 2% of full range on the microamp range and 3% on the other two ranges.
The center panel is brush-finished, anodized aluminum and the one-piece sides and bottom are painted steel. The meter is a nominal 3-1/2 inch unit with a taut-band movement. Dimension: 12x13x13cm.
