Phylum: Mollusca. Limax, an air-breathing land slug. Commonly confused by inept doctoral students with Ariolimax, which is much larger, is orange in color and lives on an entirely different substrate that consists of fungus that grows exclusively on detritus that forms under redwood trees. The common slug is content with much of the detritus found in urban areas far away from coastal redwoods.
